On a hill by the Mississippi where Chippewas camped two generations ago, a girl stood in relief against the cornflower blue of N

orthern sky. She saw no Indians now; she saw flour-mills and the blinking windows of skyscrapers in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Nor was she thinking of squaws and portages, and the Yankee fur-traders whose shadows were all about her. She was meditating upon walnut fudge, the plays of Brieux, the reasons why heels run over, and the fact that the chemistry instructor had stared at the new coiffure which concealed her ears.
A breeze which had crossed a thousand miles of wheat-lands bellied her taffeta skirt in a line so graceful, so full of animation and moving beauty, that the heart of a chance watcher on the lower road tightened to wistfulness over her quality of suspended freedom. She lifted her arms, she leaned back against the wind, her skirt dipped and flared, a lock blew wild. A girl on a hilltop; credulous, plastic, young; drinking the air as she longed to drink life. The eternal aching comedy of expectant youth.
It is Carol Milford, fleeing for an hour from Blodgett College.
The days of pioneering, of lassies in sunbonnets, and bears killed with axes in piney clearings, are deader now than Camelot; and a rebellious girl is the spirit of that bewildered empire called the American Middlewest.

Complete the statement to illustrate the commutative property. (PLEASE ANSWER FAST FOR BRAINLIEST!!!)
makkiz [27]

Answer:

C. 9

Explanation:

Let's add up the other side of the equation first. So we do 9+11 according to the order of operations and we get 20. We then add 10 to 20 and we get 30. Now we look at the other side and see that the numbers are the same, except 11 and 9 will be flipped. So the blank is 9.

I hope this helped!

Summary of the story jump away
Papessa [141]

Answer:

The boys are being challenged to jump of a bridge by a high school bully.

Explanation:

I think the theme of this short storiy is sometimes standing up to greater powers may cause punishment but it is still the right thing to do. An example of this is when Mike the bully is counting and instead of jumping on three Fenny jumps on two. Fenny didn't want to conform to Mikes rule so he jumps on his own. It's his life to control and not Mikes. Although Mike gets mad at him and punches Fenny, Fenny knows he did the right thing.

One symbol in this story is the man a girl fishing up stream from the bridge. this symbolizes calmness, of how he is about to do this stunt but is focused on these two fishers. The way he looks in the distance to focus on something so simple as people fishing while he has this mean bully yelling at him, making him jump off a bridge.
