Answer:

Conventions are:

(D) the use of proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.

Explanation:

Spelling:

Although one can write a word such as "sympathy" in an incorrect way (as in "simpathy") and be understood, it is part of our conventions to write it with proper spelling. Besides showing we are aware of conventions, it shows we worry about spelling rules.

Punctuation:

He likes music

The message is gotten across perfectly, but it lacks punctuation at the end (.).

Therefore, in spite of being readable and understandable, it does not follow any rules of convention.

Capitalization:

I saw peter last night.

The proper noun "Peter" is not capitalized, which means the sentence is not in agreement with conventional capitalization rules, despite being readable and understandable.

Grammar:

If you are cold and suddenly decide to close the window, and you say "I'm going to close the window", people will understand you, although you did not follow the conventions of proper grammar, which would be using "will" when expressing decisions made at the moment of speaking ("I'll close the window").

Which best describes one reason why "Sympathy" is a naturalist poem?
denis23 [38]

"It addresses the effects of racism and oppression in society" is the best which describes the reason why "Sympathy" is a naturalist poem. Literary naturalism emphasizes observation and the scientific method in the fictional portrayal of reality.

Other characteristics of literary naturalism are:

 • detachment: the author maintains an impersonal tone and disinterested point of view
 • determinism: the opposite of free will, in which a character's fate has been decided, even predetermined, by impersonal forces of nature beyond human control
 • a sense that the universe itself is indifferent to human life
