Since the word script comes from the Latin scrībĕre which means to write, this expression has to do with the idea of having a written speech when preparing for speaking specially. For example, when someone is presenting a discourse or audition the script is the initial point to be prepared for it, as it will contain the necessary information in order to be able to remember the most important points to communicate to the audience in a clear and organized way.
