What can radiometric dating tell us about the age of rocks that the law of superposition cannot

Geography
1 answer:
shtirl [24]3 years ago
5 0

Answer:

Radiometric dating provides the age (absolute) of the rocks

Explanation:

The law of superposition says that the rocks that are found at the base of the undisturbed sedimentary rock sequence are the oldest rocks and the rocks that are found at the apical region are the youngest rocks. This gives the relative age of the rocks but the absolute age cannot be determined.

On the other hand, Radiometric dating refers to the technique of dating the rocks and obtaining the age of the rocks by determining the rate at which the unstable radioactive elements decay. This gives the absolute age of the rocks and is very commonly used by geologists.

Thus, the radiometric dating method tells the absolute age of the rocks but the law of superposition of rocks cannot.

You have a straight angle with three angles on it one measures 45 degrees and the other measures 65 degrees. What is the measure
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

A straight angle measures 180°. ... An angle can be measured using a protractor, and the angle of measure 90 degrees is called a right angle. In a right angle, the two arms are perpendicular to each other. When the right angle is divided into two equal parts each angle measures 45°.

What is the relationship between climate and population density?
nordsb [41]

Listed below are the names, spectral types (in parentheses), and approximate masses of several nearby main-sequence stars. Rank
Kruka [31]

Answer:

Rank of the stars from shortest to longest distances:

Barnard's Star (M4)

61 Cygnia A (K5)

Alpha Centauri A (G2)

Sirius (A1)

Spica (B1)

Explanation:

The habitable zone, also known as the circumstellar habitable zone, is the range of distances from a star where it is not too hot and not too cold for liquid water to exist on the surface of surrounding planets.

The location of a star’s habitable zone is dependent upon its luminosity, which is the amount of light emitted by an object in a unit of time, because a star’s luminosity increases with time; and also the star's mass.

The inverse square law of light brightness can be used to determine the extent of the habitable zones for different luminosity stars with the formula:

star boundary = Sun boundary × squareroot[(star luminosity)/(Sun luminosity].
