Answer: The aspect of Charybdis that frightened the men was the sound heard.

Explanation:

The aspect of Charybdis which frightens the men more was the sound that the men heard from it. The language of the poet conveys the fearfulness because the men were frightened that they were heading to a big whirlpool which sucks in water.

The crew were so frightened they couod not continue on. The crew has to go towards Scylla or Charybdis in order to live to tell the tale.

Author use to provide the reader with clues about Henry's character?
Naily [24]

What the author used to provide the reader with clues about Henry's character is:

 • Henry's interaction with other characters.

What are clues in a story?

When writing a story, clues or hints are often provided to help readers form an opinion about the characters. In the story Chrysanthemum by John Steinbeck, the character of Henry was revealed indirectly.

Thus the reader can form opinions about him from his thoughts, words, actions, and interaction with others in the story.

Opened sentences with discourse markers?
Anvisha [2.4K]

Discourse markers are words or phrases like anyway, right, okay, as I say, to begin with. We use them to connect, organise and manage what we say or write or to express attitude:

[friends are talking]

A:

So, I’ve decided I’m going to go to the bank and ask for a car loan.

B:

That sounds like a good idea.

C:

Well, you need a car.

B:

Right.

A:

Anyway, I was wondering if either of you would teach me how to drive.

The discourse markers in this extract have a number of uses:so marks the beginning of a new part of the conversation.

well marks a change in the focus (from getting a car loan to needing a car).

right marks a response (B is agreeing with C).

anyway marks a shift in topic (from buying a new car to having driving lessons).

We use different discourse markers in speaking and writing. In speaking, the following discourse markers are very common:

anyway

like

right

you know

fine

now

so

I mean

good

oh

well

as I say

great

okay

mind you

for a start

In writing, the following discourse markers are common:

firstly

in addition

moreover

on the other hand

secondly

in conclusion

on the one hand

to begin with

thirdly

in sum

Discourse markers do not always have meanings that you will find in your dictionary. However, they do have certain functions, and some discourse markers, such as well, can have a number of functions.

RESET THE QUESTION: Compare and contrast Isabel's point of view on leaving Cuba to that of her grandfather, Lito's. How do their
never [62]

Answer:

Isabel’s grandfather and Teresa’s father. (“Lito” is short for abuelito, meaning “grandfather.”) Lito is skeptical of leaving Cuba, but Isabel convinces him to join the rest of the family on the boat to Miami in order to keep the family together and help Teresa as she prepares to give birth to a new baby boy. Lito often gets into fights with Geraldo, whom he believes is prioritizing himself over the rest of his family. At the end of the story, it is revealed that Lito was Mariano Padron, the Cuban officer who decades prior saved Josef’s father, Aaron, when he dove into the water. Lito is haunted by the fact that he told the Jewish passengers on board the St. Louis that they would be able to disembark and arrive in Cuba “mañana,” but never let them in. He turned Josef and the others away and sent them back to Europe (many of them to their deaths), despite the fact that he could have let them in to Cuba. Driven by this guilt, Lito saves Isabel and the others at the end of the book by jumping off of their boat and pretending to drown so that the Coast Guard boat that is following them becomes distracted. He is then deported back to Cuba. Lito’s story highlights the importance of empathy, as he realizes that he had a responsibility to save the Jewish people on the St. Louis but chose to ignore their plight.
