Hey,

For your question we need to subtract.

Ed starts out with 14 puppets.
He then gives some to his brother.
And now he has 5 puppets.

An expression we can make for this is below:

14 - p = 5

P is how many puppets Ed gave to his brother.

To find the answer can do:

14 - 5

To figure out how many puppets he gave to his brother.

We are using the commutative property by the way. Which the commutative property states that order does not matter. It matters in some cases but not here. We basically moved the 5 and the p so we created a new equation but with the same outcome.

14 - 5 = 9

9 is how many puppets Ed gave to his brother.

Hope this helps!

Firstly, ignore the 7toy guitars Delia has because it’s irrelevant. Ed has 14 puppets and if he gave some to his brother and now he only has 5 then he wouldn’t given his brother 9

The diagram below shows a shaded parallelogram drawn inside a rectangle. Using Pythagoras, find the hypotenuse of triangle A and
Julli [10]

Answer: 5.9 cm for both triangles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi, since the situation forms 2 right triangles we have to apply the Pythagorean Theorem:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

Where c is the hypotenuse of a triangle (the longest side of the triangle) and a and b are the other sides.

Replacing with the values given:

c^2 = 3^2 + 5^2

c^2 = 9+25

c^2 = 34

c = √34

c = 5.9 cm

Since both triangles are identical ( same side lengths) the hypotenuse is the same for both, 5.9 cm.
