Answer:

The poem is D) a ‘free verse’ poem.

Explanation:

Langston Hughes wrote this poem in 1921 following no metrical scheme or rhyme pattern. So, lines in every stanza vary in the number of syllables and there are no rhyming pairs to be seen.

The poem is characterized by repetition: the word ‘rivers’ and the names of world known rivers such as the Euphrates, the Congo, the Nile and the Mississipi can be read throughout the poem. There’s also repetition of the phrases such as ‘I’ve known’.

There are also continues similes like 'my soul has grown deep like the river' and 'rivers as ancient as the world'.

The different literary figures and the free verse genre allow the author to express the powerfulness and greatness of black history since older times.

Answer:

The answer is A: a narrative poem

Explanation:

The poem is narrative due to Langston Hughes using personal-tense words such as "I've" and "my" in the poem, and eluding the written intent towards other characters in a first person perspective

Aliun [14]

It's widely believed that this is something of an urban myth. According to this myth, prison governors supposedly use third-grade reading scores in local schools to plan how many beds they will need to provide in their facilities. The idea is that those who fall into a life of crime never progress in their reading abilities beyond third grade.

What is the author’s purpose in using a mirror as a symbol??
Alik [6]
Author's purpose for using a mirror varies. For example Laurie Halse Anderson, in her book Speak, uses the mirror as a symbol, to show Melinda's frustrations towards herself, such as appearance.
Seeing that Melinda was rap ed, she after avoids the mirror at all times. This can be interpreted as her inability to face her feelings. She also states "she can't see herself", and that shows us that her sense of identity has been altered by the rap e.
It's safe to say that a mirror can be a symbol of physical and spiritual reflection. Hope this helps.
