<u>Cyrus II  was also known as Cyrus the Great.  He was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire which was the first Persian Empire.</u> Under his rule, the Persian Empire saw vast expansion and eventually went on to conquer most parts of Western Asia as well as Central Asia. His Reign lasted for around 30 years and during his period of the ruling, he conquered the Median Empire, Then Lydian Empire and eventually went on to conquer the Neo-Babylonian Empire. He also served as the king of the area known as Anshan for eight years and Anshan remained as a territory of central Iran.  

<u>His win over Babylon is known to be his major accomplishment as he went on to conquer Babylon without a fight as the Babylonian army was routed and Sippar (Capital of Babylon)  was seized without a battle as there was little or no resistance from the Babylonian armies.  </u>

to become the world’s largest at that time, an area spanning from Turkey to the

Indus River in Pakistan. Cyrus warred and conquered the mighty Neo-Babylonian Empire,

routing the Babylonian Army in the Battle of Opis and entered the city of

Babylon without any resistance.
