Thomas Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana Territory could be viewed as hypocritical because the action was antithetical to his political beliefs. although many would say he was a hypocrite for agreeing to this presidential decision, others adverse. one should make decisions for the greater good of the country regardless of his political affiliation, hypothetically speaking, him being a democratic-republican. this raised much controversy. those who viewed him as a hypocrite said his action was unconstitutional, although it wasn't necessarily stated in the constitution, therefore it was implied so.

Jefferson was considered a strict constitutionalist, not wishing to overstep his limited powers. even though the Louisiana purchase advantaged the U.S. by doubling the nations size.
