In 1947, President Truman established the Truman doctrine that stated that the United States would provide political, military, and economic assistance to all democratic nations, to prevent the spread of communism. This process is known as "containment," because the United Stated and its allies prevented the spread of communism after World War II.
Georgia gained new territory of the Ohio River Valley as a result of the war. Georgia colonists suffered great losses of lives and property. Georgia was a buffer zone in the fighting between the French and the Indians. Georgia was the only colony to support the French against the British in the war.
On August 3, 1492, Columbus set sail from Spain to find an all-water route to Asia. On October 12, more than two months later, Columbus landed on an island in the Bahamas that he called San Salvador; the natives called it Guanahani.
