You graded a student’s paper and found the running use of contractions. Provide a brief explanation that argues against the use
inysia [295]
Contractions are considered not concise and informal in academic and scholarly papers. Academic and scholarly papers are formal compared to speech and personal essays where contractions are usually used. Therefore, students should separate words in contractions.

2. What is Turkle's main argument in this article? Do you agree or disagree with her ideas?
sveticcg [70]

The main argument of Turkle in this article is as below :

 • I agree with Sherry Turkle when she talks about how “we have been accustomed to a new path of being ‘alone together’”.This is an amazing thing. Therefore , we need to know when to put down the devices and interact with people face to face.

Rhetorical Appeals :

It can appeal to emotions like as anger, happiness, sadness, joy, etc. Pathos is generally used in texts that employs visuals and sound.

Ethos → character, ethics,

Pathos → appeals to empathy, compassion.

Logos → logic, substantive prose, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning

A) Ethos: An appeal to ethos is an appeal to credibility. Writers use ethos once they use their own expertise on a topic or cite an expert on the subject. An author might ask work credentials, degrees, etc. the author can also “borrow” credibility by citing evidence from another author who is an expert in the topic.

B) Pathos: Although “pathos” may sound plenty like the word “pathetic,” that isn’t what it means. Rather, pathos is an appeal to emotion. consider the words “empathy” and “sympathy” rather of “pathetic.” When an author uses pathos, he or she is requesting to the audience’s emotions to invoke empathy and/or sympathy towards the subject as well as the author

C) Logos: The Greek word “logos” is that the central of the English word “logic.” considering logos as an author’s use of logic to achieve his or her purpose. An author appeals to logos by using data, statistics, relevant evidence, and the next forms of proof appropriate to the topic. It also means to the utilization of incomplete logics

 • Turkle uses , pathos appeals very heavily on emotional manipulation. Pathos can trigger any sort of emotions in the reader ranging from sadness to anger.

Professor Turkle employs one last emotional appeal at the very end of her essay. Turkle challenges her audience to step faraway from the technological overload and come back to human interaction, “So I say, look up, examine one another, and let’s start the conversations” (Turkle). Professor Turkle appeals to her audience's that emotional and challenges let them to act on their emotions and accept her challenges to start out the conversation. The emotional appeal in Turkle’s argument effectively persuades the audience.

When Elie's father was sick, why didn't the guards give him food?
andreyandreev [35.5K]

Answer:

Well we don’t necessarily know very much background information on how sick Elie’s father is. So we are gonna make a educated guess. Well most likely is that Ellie’s father is to sick to be given food because there is a scarce chance of him surviving. But also the food supply also might of been low and scarce,so that is also a possibility.

Hope this helps!

''its not about what you have

But about how you use it

Nothing is good or bad

Unless you make it so

Before you blame a trait

Think about what you can do

To turn things around

And make it good for you''
