Answer:

the number of book she can carry is 5 books

Step-by-step explanation:

backpack capacity = 18 lb

backpack can carry:

lunch = 1 lb

gym clothes = 2 lb

books = 3 lb per book

find:

how many books can she carry in her backpack?

backpack capacity = lunch + gym clothes +  x books

let x be the number of books

18 = 1 + 2 + 3x

18 - 1 - 2 = 3x

15 = 3x

x = 15 / 3

x = 5

therefore, the number of book she can carry is 5 books

A 10-feet tree makes an 18 ft shadow. About how tall is a person who makes a 1 feet ft shadow at the same time?
Murljashka [212]
So this is ratios
actual height to shadow height=10 to 18=10:18=10/18=5/9
ratio is 5:9

if the shadow height=12 then find actual height
x:12=5:9 since they should be in the same ratio
x/12=5/9
multiply both sides by 12
x=60/9
x=6 and 6/9
x=6 and 2/3
height of person is 6 and 2/3 foot or 6.66ft or 6ft and 8 inches
