During the period of 1820 to 1840, there were only 11 Chinese people who emigrated to United States but many in year 1848, Many Chinese people chose to immigrate to United States because they were offered more suitable life as United States was in need of labourers for the construction of railroads because of gold rush in California. Because of that, Chinese immigration in United States increased and there were around 105000 Chinese people in United States by 1880. In order to get more votes, <u>Politicians from California adopted anti-China stance and Republican Senator, John Miller brought a bill which was related to prohibition of Chinese Immigrants and he submitted this motion to ban Chinese immigrants in United States from 20 years. This bill was named as ‘Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882’. The motion was discussed in senate for 8 days and was eventually passed but President Chester A Arthur vetoed this bill and Congress was unable to overturn his veto but it passed a new version of this bill which banned Immigration of Chinese people for 10 years.  </u>
