During the early 1800s, he attempted to organize a confederation of tribes to resist white settlement. During the War of 1812, Tecumseh and his followers joined the British to fight the United States. He was killed in the Battle of the Thames in Canada on October 5, 1813.</span>

Under certain circumstances he was allowed to kill his children, his slaves or his wife. However, this right was restricted by social control.
