I need help. The units of the definite integral are the units of the x-axis times the y-axis. So in a velocity (m/s) versus time
(s) graph, the units would be meters. However, when we do the average value of a function, the units stay as what they were before even though we are still taking the definite integral. The average value of the velocity function would be in m/s and not in meters. Why is this?
The average value of the velocity function is the height of the rectangle that has the same area as the velocity curve. That height is still measured in m/s.
If you want to find distance traveled (in m), then you must multiply the height in m/s by the width in s.
