Our drop of water is like any other drop of water—it is made of hydrogen and oxygen. In fact, each molecule of our water drop looks exactly the same: two hydrogen atoms linked up with one oxygen atom. This combination of hydrogen and oxygen is simply what makes water what it is.

Johnny's story is to inform, while the Crescent Bay Beach story is to persuade.

Explanation:

Johnny's story gives information to people who are reading the article, and people would want to know what happens in the story. Crescent Bay is wanting people to come out and clean the beach, so they are running a campaign to raise awareness and to persuade people to do their part.

Which text from the poem illustrates the theme of loss of culture ""Without Title"" by Diane Glancy?
stepladder [879]

Answer:

The text that best illustrates the loss of culture in the poem is: "Without a vision he had migrated to the city "

Explanation:

The main theme of the poem mentioned in the question above is the loss of cultural identity that the speaker's father suffered. This is very evident in the line where the speaker states that his father, when he found himself in a situation where cultural customs were no longer attended, migrated, aimlessly and without vision, to the city, where the traditions of his people were nonexistent and definitely marked the loss of identity.

The line “this disaster swallows up a man and wife together” is an example of _____.
bazaltina [42]
It's not any kind of comparison. Disaster is not compared to either man or wife or both. That makes A and B incorrect.

The problem is that both C and D have possibilities.

Discussion Hyperbole
Usually Hyperbole is an exaggeration used to suggest a humorous condition. We would not take the exact meaning seriously but we might take what the hyperbola is suggesting seriously.

Your smile is worth a million dollars to me.

There once was an ad for Camel's cigarettes that said "I'd walk a mile for a camel." People found the double meaning (cigarette and 4 legged animal) catchy. They also responded to the idea of walking a mile for a camel (either one). The point is, would you really walk a mile for either one? It's exaggerated.

Personification
These are attributes given to things or animals other than other inanimate things. In your case, your example swallows up man and wife together is a personification because whatever doing the swallowing, normally can't do it.
