Which statement summarizes the outcome of the Supreme Court case of Worcester v. Georgia?

Answer:

Worcester v. Georgia ruled that the federal government, not a state government, had authority in dealing with relationships with Native American tribal nations. The Cherokee nation won the case at the Supreme Court level.

Ultimately, however, the Cherokee lost their land, because Pres. Andrew Jackson refused to enforce the Supreme Court's decision.

Explanation:

The 1832 case, Worcester v. Georgia, ruled unconstitutional a Georgia law requiring non-Native Americans requiring a license from the state to be on Native American land. In responding to the case, the Supreme Court asserted that the federal government is the sole authority to deal with a Native American nation. From this Supreme Court assertion came the beginnings of tribal sovereignty within the United States for Native American nations -- that the US government would deal with them as domestic nations inside the United States.

The court case was named after Samuel Worcester, a Christian minister working among the Cherokee who was supportive of the Cherokee cause. To block the activity of a man like Rev. Worcester, the state of Georgia passed a law prohibiting white persons to live within the Cherokee Nation territory without permission from the Georgia state government. Worcester and other missionaries challenged this law, and the case rose to the level of a Supreme Court decision. The decision by the Supreme Court, written by Chief Justice Marshall, struck down the Georgia law and reprimanded Georgia for interfering in the affairs of the Cherokee Nation. Marshall wrote that Indian nations are "distinct, independent political communities retaining their original natural rights."

But President Andrew Jackson chose not to enforce the court's decision. He said at the time: "The decision of the Supreme Court has fell stillborn, and they find that it cannot coerce Georgia to yield to its mandate." He told the Cherokee that they would need to operate under the jurisdiction of the state of Georgia or else relocate. This was a step in the direction of what became known as the "Trail of Tears," when the Cherokee were removed from Georgia and moved to territory in Oklahoma.

Who was Jee Gam, and how did he resist anti Chinese ideas and laws?
AnnyKZ [126]

Answer:

In 1892, Congress passed the Chinese Registration Act or the “Geary Act,” named for its sponsor, Representative Thomas J. Geary from California. The Geary Act required all American residents of Chinese origin or descent to carry a “certificate of residence” that demonstrates that they are legally entitled to be in the country. The lack of a residence certificate was sufficient to justify deportation. The Geary Act built on earlier statutes that had restricted immigration from China. The introduction of immigration restrictions and significant distinct regulation of Chinese immigrants was a departure from earlier American practice, when immigration in general had been actively encouraged and the legal obstacles to immigration to the United States were minimal. The hostility to Chinese immigration was particularly strong on the West Coast, which had seen an influx of foreign laborers, particularly from

China. Jee Gam arrived in San Francisco as a teenager in the late days of the American Civil War. In the United States, he converted to Christianity and took up missionary work in the Chinese community in California. In 1890, he was ordained as a Congregational minister, the first Chinese American to do so. He was an activist on behalf of Chinese interests in the United States, and he married and had several children in the United States. He was still legally barred from becoming a naturalized American citizen when he died in 1910 on a voyage back to China. His critique of the Geary Act was published in an evangelical journal based in San Francisc

Some of the changes that have resulted from women working outside their homes are the creation of household appliances and advertising focused on women.

What is women's work?

Women's work is a term that refers to the right that women achieved to work under equal conditions as men.

What changes did women's work bring to society?

Women's work brought several changes to society because women were going to leave home work, to work in other different areas, some examples are:

 • Appliances were created: Because women were no longer going to have the same time to dedicate to housework such as sweeping, cooking, or others, appliances were created to save time on some tasks.
 • Advertising focused on women was created: Women, before obtaining their right to work, were financially supported by their husbands, therefore, once they obtained money they participated in the market and could buy their own things, for which they were taken into account in advertising for various companies.
