Select the correct text in the passage. Read this transcript from General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 1944 "Order of the Day" speech.

Eisenhower addresses a large battalion of Allied troops. Which sentence indicates the occasion of the speech? Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! A***(You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade), toward which we have striven these many months. B****(The eyes of the world are upon you.) The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. C****(your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened.) He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940–41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory! D****(I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle.) We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Answer:

A). They emphasize the idea that male writers did not face obstacles that women did at the time.

Explanation:

The underlined sentences 'stresses the idea that male writers did not face obstacles' which is the central idea of 'A Room of One's Own.' Virginia Woolf is one of the most acknowledged and well-known feminist writers. It discusses the subordinate place of women in the history of literature. She says that women have been treated like teenagers and their works have not been expressed or acknowledged adequately. The only human whose work is expressed completely is Shakespeare(representative of all male writers) implying that male writers do not face the similar interruption or obstacles as of women. Thus, she concludes by saying that 'women must have a room of their own to write.'

Read the paragraph. Then answer the question that follows. Perhaps you wanted pizza for dinner, but was out voted by the rest of
max2010maxim [7]
The correct answer is B. Both show conflict between the rights of individuals and groups.

Both show how the common good is always above an individual good. The common good is "common" because it protects the interests of the majority of people, while not jeopardizing any individuals. That's why there are democratic elections, where everybody has the right to vote, but the majority decides who is going to represent them. It's not that the individual's opinion doesn't count or doesn't matter; on the contrary, it always counts. But at the end, it's about the assessment of all members of a group.
