The British restricted trade with other colonies because they wanted their people to buy only there stuff for example when the tea act highered taxes on tea and also prevented people from buying anyone elses tea.
The Gracchus brothers helped the poor by asking the council of Plebs to pass laws to take back land from the Patricians (Pisistratus).
