In general, the information provided by an apositive could be deleted without affecting the meaning.
In this case, one could say<em> "Sagittarius is near the Galactic Center of the Milky Way."</em> without using the word <em>constellation </em>and the sentence would still mean the same.
Appositives have to do with those words that come together or one is close to the other in which one is renaming the other. The appositive in this particular sentence is Sagittarius and the word that is near to rename it is the word Constellation.
