PLEASE HELP 60 POINTS!!! Many rain forest plants are prone to developing fungal infections on their leaves. Fungi can grow rapid

ly in moist environments, and a serious infection can kill plants. One rain forest plant species has a genetic variation that affects its leaf structure. The traits and the descriptions of the plant’s leaves are listed in the chart.
TRAIT A: wide-tip leaves Water runs onto the leaves and tends to pool in pockets at the tips.
TRAIT B: drip-tip leaves Leaves come to a sharp point, leading to thorough water drainage from the leaves.
TRAIT C: medium-tip leaves Leaves are narrower toward the tips, but don’t come to a full point. Most of the water drains from the leaves.

During natural selection, organisms with harmful traits are less likely to successfully reproduce than organisms with beneficial traits. Neutral traits don’t improve or hurt an organism’s chances for survival. So, they tend to persist in populations when environmental conditions are stable. If the environment changes, neutral traits could become harmful or beneficial depending on the situation.

In year 1, a population of rain forest plants has the following distribution: 50% have medium-tip leaves, 25% have wide-tip leaves, and 25% have drip-tip leaves. You will simulate three years of this population: year 1, year 5, and year 10. How will the trait distribution most likely change over this time?

The plants having wide tips (trait A) retain the moisture, which means they are more prone to infection. So, the number of plants having trait A would be the most affected among all, and their number will significantly decrease, or may become extinct.

The plants having drip tips (trait B) drains away all the moisture, which means, they are less prone to fungal infections. So, the plants having drip tips would be the more abundant as compared to other traits.

The plant having mid-tip (trait C) retains a little amount of moisture. So, the plants having mid tip may or may not be infected, so, they can also survive, but the survival rate would be less than the drip-tip plants.

So, it can be concluded that plant having trait B would be most abundant in future, and plants having trait B would be less than plant having trait B, and the plant having trait A would either be extinct or least present.

How were Lamarck’s and Darwin’s ideas most similar?
irinina [24]

Answer:

Darwin and Lamarck's theory is different but they were also very similar. Both of them thought that the organism changed, and they are very helpful for the organism to survive. These characteristics are also passed to their young generation.

Darwin theory state that an organism gets the helpful variation before the changes in the environment, Lamarck's theory said that organism gets variation after the change in the environment.

Lamarck's stated that giraffe got long neck when the food on the ground ran out. In order to get the food they stretch out their neck to get food. Darwin thought organism changed by chance, at the time when they are born and before the change in the environment.

How does mutation relate to variation
Anastasy [175]

Answer:

Mutation is the source for new genetic variation: Genetic variation is brought about by random mutation. Without mutation, genetic variation cannot occur. Mutation is a change in the genetic code in DNA and can lead to a change in the protein that is coded for that segment of DNA.

Explanation:

Mutations are changes to an organism's DNA and are an important driver of diversity in populations. Species evolve because of the accumulation of mutations that occur over time. ... This mutation has introduce a new allele into the population that increases genetic variation and may be passed on to the next generation.

Point A is the same distance from the epicenter as point B. Using what you know about the movement of waves, how would you
never [62]

A.  The waves would be exactly the same at points A and B.

Explanation:

The seismic waves at both point A and B would be exactly the same at the two points.

Seismic waves are elastic waves that spreads out concentrically in all directions from their source.

  • Both S and P waves are body waves that moves within the earth.
  • In a seismic station, the p-waves or primary waves arrives first before the s-waves or secondary waves.
  • At any point equidistant from the epicenter, baring any geologic differences in the subsurface, the waves would be exactly the same at all points.

which of the following events is most likely to result in conditions suitable for primary succession?
Oksana_A [137]

Answer:

An earthquake , a forest fire , a hurricane  and a volcanic eruption.

Explanation:

An earthquake , a forest fire , a hurricane  and a volcanic eruption are the events that is responsible for the suitable conditions for primary succession because all the population of animals and vegetation are removed from an area and the new type of organisms is start to living in that new environment. These new organism has the ability to survive that environmental conditions. These events completely removed the population in the environment and provides conditions for primary succession.
