"…In the forcible annexation of the Philippines our nation neither adds to its strength nor secures broader opportunities for th

e American people.
Even if the principle of conquest were permissible under American public law, the conquest of territory so remote from our shores, inhabited by people who have no sympathy with our history or our customs, and who resent our attempt to overthrow their declaration of independence, would be a tax [burden] upon our military and naval strength the magnitude of which cannot now be determined.
Who can estimate in money and men the cost of subduing and keeping in subjection eight millions of people, six thousand miles away, scattered over twelve hundred islands and living under a tropical sun?…

After reading the information above and doing some research online about the documents 2a and 2b, I can give you a few reasons why the U.S might be affected by the Spanish-American war.

1. An enlightened foreign policy led to rational expansion. Rational expansion led the United States to annex Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

2. Annexation of the Philippines will be a burden because the Philippine people want to be independent.

3. Also annexing the Philippine people would greatly tax our military and naval strength.

Why did Africa become the site of so many proxy wars during the postwar era?
BigorU [14]

Answer: It became the site of many wars during the era because, after World War II, the tension between communist and democratic forms of government strained relations between the Soviet Union and the United States and provided the ideological underpinnings of the Cold War. These tensions almost boiled over into full on conflict several times, especially as nuclear arms proliferation and testing advanced rapidly during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Both nations found it critical to expand their spheres of influence, largely by promoting leadership in the “Third World” that would be sympathetic to their causes. Arguably more important, however, was the ability to have friendly governments that could be used as allies to fight conventional wars or provide bases for the placement of nuclear warheads in the case of nuclear warfare. By using both diplomatic and military power, the United States and the Soviet Union attempted to carve out areas that could be utilized as staging grounds against one another.

What is the basic belief of the islamic religion
Andru [333]

The basic belief of the Islamic religion is that its faith centered around in one God, Allah (belief in Allah as the one and only God). It is a monotheistic faith. Its history relates back to the patriarch Abraham, and to the first prophet, Adam. The last in the series of prophets that preached the same universal message of belief in one God and kindness to humanity, according to Muslims, was Muhammad (is the final prophet). He was not happy because of superstitions and social/economic injustice. The people were worshipping many gods and had forgotten the message of prophet Abraham (to worship one God). His main message is that there was no other God but Allah and that people should lead their lives in a way that was pleasing to Allah.

Allah is the Arabic word for God.
