The quote we are studying here is an excerpt from "King Lear", by Shakespeare. It is exposing the different treatment given to rich and poor when it comes to justice. According to this quote, the rich get away with anything, never truly having to own up to their crimes, vices, or mistakes. The lance of justice breaks when it tries to pierce their fancy robes. In other words, money can buy impunity. On the other hand, the poor are easily punished, maybe even more than they truly deserve. A straw can pierce their rags. No matter how small their crime, they are surely going to pay for it with much more suffering than that crime really called for.

The pacing of his words was fairly quick so some instructions had to be repeated to fully understand. The speaker also used easy to understand words.

How does the speaker use diction to create this tone? Support your response by referencing the speaker’s use of informal language, connotation and denotation, and/or word choice.

The speaker's diction was formal. He used creative ways to help you clearly understand how to build the rocket giving names to each of the sections of the model for guidance.

Mood

What is the overall mood created by the speaker?

The mood of the speaker was very straight forward.

How does the speaker use syntax to create the mood? Support your response by referencing the speaker’s use of pacing, repetition, and word order.

The structure of the directions was well executed and made it fairly easy to follow along with. All of the sentences were generally grammatically correct.

How does the author use diction to create the mood? Support your response by referencing the speaker’s use of informal language, connotation and denotation, and word choice.

The author uses diction to help with the imagination through words of how to complete the rocket correctly. The diction allows you to make images in your head to visualize where things should be or go. It is a very informal diction unlike for example Shakespeare.

The voice was very monotone and quick paced.

The author uses syntax by speaking calmly yet straightforward and to the point. There isn't a rush in their voice other than the pace in which they were speaking at.

The speaker used very informal language to help portray the instructions as clear and concise as possible.
