Hitler enticed the middle class with his promise of order, he attracted bankers and industrialists with his opposition to German communists, and his oath to enlarge and re-arm the military made him popular with officers and the unemployed. By the mid-1930s, Hitler had become chancellor, president, and effective dictator of Germany.

With the surge of fresh troops, equipment & supplies, they were able to defeat the already battle-weary & tired Central Power troops. This led to a quick defeat for the Central Power

In short, Germany was close to being defeated, and America wanted to be part of the post war carve up (when territory was divided).  The US was supplying war materials to the Allies and could not do so while maintaining complete neutrality.  There was also the sinking of the British ship Lusitania which angered the US. Also, the Zimmerman telegram.
