Read the excerpt from My Story. She took me up a flight of stairs (the cells were on the second level), through a door covered wi

th iron mesh, and along a dimly lighted corridor. She placed me in an empty dark cell and slammed the door closed. She walked a few steps away, but then she turned around and came back. She said, "There are two girls around the other side, and if you want to go over there with them instead of being in a cell by yourself, I will take you over there." I told her that it didn't matter, but she said, "Let's go around there, and then you won't have to be in a cell alone." It was her way of being nice. It didn't make me feel any better. How does Rosa Parks help the reader understand her emotions in this excerpt?

Answer:

She uses both lighting and explicit emotional description.

Explanation:

The writer describes the lightning of the places to emphasize certain emotions. First she starts by mentioning a "dimly lighted corridor", which creates a sensation of oppresion; then she describes an "empty dark cell", which the reader associates with fear and mystery. Furthermore, Rosa Parks continues the story by a sudden door slam, an action that makes the scene even more tense.

The narrator also states that the character's attempts at being nice didn't make her feel any better. This is a direct explanation of the main character's inner thoughts.

True or false pachelbel was close friends with the Bach family
Bogdan [553]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

He met members of the Bach family in Eisenach (which was the home city of J. S. Bach's father, Johann Ambrosius Bach), and became a close friend of Johann Ambrosius and tutor to his children. However, Pachelbel spent only one year in Eisenach. He was godfather to one of Bach's sisters, and music teacher to a brother. So Theodore, the youngest Pachelbel son, had known Bach, who was only five years his senior.

Which of these arguments about stratification is a structural-functional theory? Group of answer choices Stratification is based
kow [346]

Answer:

See explanations

Explanation:

According to a functionalist perspective, differences in power, wealth, and other rewards within the social structure are justified, because they motivate the most qualified people to exercise their talents in the most important jobs.

Society is unequally structured because of people’s inherent inequality in functional importance.

A problem with this view is that it is difficult to determine the functional importance of any job.

Another problem with this view is that it assumes that the current system of stratification is fair and rational, which is not always the case.

Key Terms

social stratification: The hierarchical arrangement of social classes, or castes, within a society.

functional importance: The degree to which a job is unique and requires skill
