Answer:

d. Rip is unmoved by the news of his wife’s death.

Explanation:

Washington Irving's short story "Rip van Winkle" tells the fantasy story of how the protagonist 'slept' through two decades to up to a whole new world, completely different from his last one.

Before the "<em>sleep</em>", Rip van Winkle had gone to the mountains to escape his wife's constant nagging, taking his dog with him. There, he met a group of strange old men who gave him a drink. The next time he woke up, things had completely changed. His dog was no more, the village had look different, his children had grown up and had children of their own and even the American colony had gained independence from the British.

Once home, he asked about his wife, he was told that she had died "<em>a short time since</em>", giving him "<em>a drop of comfort, at least, in this intelligence</em>". He was unmoved with the death of his wife. Rather, he exclaimed to his daughter and told him his identity. He spent his life hanging around "<em>the rising generation, with whom he soon grew into great favor</em>".

Discuss the importance of trance rituals found in Indonesia and cite examples that are covered in the text and in the lecture pr
Vera_Pavlovna [14]

Answer:

This question is incomplete so required examples from the text cannot be given. Trance rituals are important to the people of Indonesia because they are ancient traditions that are a part of their culture. They are mostly sacred but many are dances done for entertainment and artistic expression only.

Explanation:

A trance is a half-conscious state where one is unable to respond to outside factors, normally induced by hypnosis or through being entered by a medium or spiritual being.

There are many types of trance rituals that are done and some can only be done by specified people, for example, virgins only, but some are done by whole villages. There are many different reasons for participating in rituals such as rites of passage, appeasing spiritual beings, healing and dealing with crisis matters.

One example is the ritual called Shanghyang which is a purposeful trance. It's a sacred state where helpful spirits enter the body of a willing person temporarily. This one is done to cleanse people and places of evil influences and to restore spiritual balance. Another one is called Rangda/Barong ritual. This one is done to restore the balance between the villagers and the spiritual world and is usually done after something bad has happened in the village.

Healing, instructions for which ceremonies need to be performed, finding lost things, chasing evil spirits away and attaining peace are some of the things villagers hope to get through their communication with the spirit world.

A state's governor recently denounced the U.S. government publicly during a speech. Can this governor be tried for treason?
Yuri [45]
Freedom of speech is allowed in the U.S, with the only limitations being slander, libel, and incitement. Slander and libel are blatantly lying about something and accusing a person of false charges. The only difference is one is spoken and one is written. (Libel is written and slander is spoken) The senator is allowed to criticize the government, as long as he isn’t accusing them of false statements or lying, he cannot be tried for treason.
