Timothy is a single 28-year old. He is anxious about his future because he doesn’t like is job or the pay. He recently started a

new job that requires him to work long hours, so he doesn’t always get enough sleep and eats on the run. He works for a company in customer support answering phone calls from customers who report technical problems with computers. His boss requires him to make sure that all customers are satisfied with their call, but many customers are upset and angry when they call into the center. Because he is always tired, he doesn’t feel like doing anything when he gets home. He spends the weekend watching TV and binge eating. His mom calls, but he doesn’t answer his phone.

 I'm assuming in this poem Billy Collins is comparing the act of reading a poem to the act of listening for the sound of honeybees but since it isn't mentioned it would be an "implied metaphor" which is comparing two unlike things without mentioning one of them. Hope this helps.
