Immigrants went to the west in search of more job opportunities and open land. In the east, immigrants are discriminated against. In the west, all that mattered was if you could do the job.

Also all the men that they drafted they had to have money to suit them for battle. about 50-70 percent of the men did not have training. So yes we lost many men in that war.
