I am 95% sure it is the geography and climate of the area where they settled. If you take a look at different native groups, you’ll see that the most prominent factors are their farming/hunting and housing styles, both affected mainly by the climate and geography surrounding them.

True. They went so far as to overproduce thinking it would make more money, but they forgot the law of supply and demand, which states that if there is more of something, it will be considered less valuable and the price of said good will god own.
