The trick is to get the X all alone on one side.  Start by subtracting 2 from both sides.  This wqould give you -1/2X+2-2=-x+7-2 or simplified to -1/2x=-x+5.  Next, add x to both sides to give you -1/2x+x=-x+5+x.  This simplifies to +1/2x=5.  Multiplying by 2 on both sides will get rid of the fraction.  Therefore 2*1/2x=5*2.  This simplifies to your final answer of x=10.
