Answer:

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates benefited Abraham Lincoln by making him well-known to the American society, as until that time he was just an ordinary politician.

Explanation:

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates were a series of public speaking sources between Abraham Lincoln, Republican, and Stephen Douglas, Democrat, on the occasion of the 1858 midterm elections in the state of Illinois.

The total of seven public debates were well received by the citizens of the United States and were accompanied nationwide by well-known newspapers. The debates did not treat issues from the state of Illinois itself, but slavery in the United States. Douglas accused Lincoln of wanting to achieve complete equality of whites and blacks.

Although Lincoln received widespread acclaim and fame, the Democrats won the midterm elections in Illinois and Douglas was confirmed as senator. Still, Lincoln benefited from the Lincoln-Douglas debates. Nationwide coverage of the duels made him known throughout the nation and made him appear as a honest, eloquent politician.
