The mercantile system with emphasis on the British one was a system which arose mainly with the birth of capitalism in Europe in the 16th century and lasting to about the 18th century in which nations like Britain and Spain acquired colonies in the New World and tried to maximize trade beneficial to themselves at the expense of the colonies and to accumulate gold and silver from these colonies (especially in the case of Spain). Much of the impetus for the strength of mercantilism in Britain came from competition with the much larger Spanish Empire.

Why would a totalitarian government be considered to be more efficient than a democratic one
slega [8]
Although a totalitarian government is generally considered an unproductive and harmful idea, a totalitarian government would be considered more efficient at making decisions than a democratic one, because a democratic government makes decisions based on the people making the decisions through representation of all the different peoples. A totalitarian government, on the other hand, is a political system in which one person holds total control over the state. This would mean that the person would make all the decisions without needing anyone's consent and this would be more efficient, as decisions would be made quicker.
Hopefully this helps please give me a thanks if you got it right :)

Who is Jacob rioss ? What was he trying to do for the immigrants living conditions? Help me and I’ll mark brainlilist :)
morpeh [17]

Explanation:

Jack Riis is a American newspaper reporter, social reformer and photographer.

These tenements were for poor immigrants that just came to the United States to start a better life. These tenements were overcrowded, unsanitary, and unsafe housing. At least 18 people lived in one tenement apartment. There were only two toilets stalled on each floor and one bathtub in the kitchen of the apartment. Jacob Riis did a lot of research and reporting of the conditions that immigrants faced such as work issues and living conditions. He wanted to improve the living conditions that these individuals had and address working issues. He possessed great deals of energy which is why he was able to expose as much as he did about the slums. Jacob Riis crusaded for the establishment of settlement houses, public parks and playgrounds, and other reforms to improve the lives of those in New York City's slums.
