Jonas was a great basketball player and was hoping to get a scholarship to a big university. Unfortunately, he was in danger of

failing his math class, which would mean he couldn't play in the championship game. He needed to get at least a B on the final to pass the class. He studied every night and worked hard to learn the material. On the day of the final, he was nervous but confident. After the exam, the teacher congratulated Jonas and told him he had passed! Jonas was thrilled and ran to tell his teammates that he could play in the big game. What is the main conflict in this passage?

The answer is:

D. Jonas needs to get a B on his math final if he wants to play in the big game.

In literature, the conflict is a struggle between contrary forces.

According to the text, Jonas has great chances of obtaining a scholarship to an important university. However, he must strive to achieve a B in is math final  exam. Otherwise, he will not have the chance to display his basketball abilities in the championship game.

"George Washington Carver was an artist long before he became a scientist" explains how
RUDIKE [14]

Answer:

The first sentence is written in the passive voice, with a passive verb. George is the subject, so what is being done to him is the passive verb. The less passive form of the sentence would be similar to "Mrs. Millholland gave George Washington Carver piano lessons." This is the active verb, since it is being done/has been done by a person rather than a subject being acted on.

Read the paragraph. (1) Every year, our school has a holiday cookie sale. (2) Hundreds of volunteers bake thousands of cookies.
Stels [109]
Well a digression is a temporary departure from the main subject in speech or writing. So because the person writing the paragraph getting ill last year has nothing to do with this years cookie sale, I think you are correct, sentence 3 is an example of a digression. So D is the answer.
