In "the pigman & me," most readers would agree that paul should not have hit john. Some would say, however, that john was at

fault for not explaining the rules. Who do you think was more at fault in this story? Choose one boy and explain why you think he is more at fault, or tell why you think they are equally at fault. Support your opinion with details from the story.

The right answer is both, it was a misunderstanding because john thought that Paul was being greedy in keeping the paddle longer than fifteen minutes. Paul didn’t know about the time limit and thought that John Quinn was picking on him.

Paul is nervous and does not realize what he is doing.

John feels he has to fight or he will look bad in front of the other kids.

Because Paul did not know the rules about the use of paddles, he kept one past the time limit

The quotation from the text that best supports the inference that a dog will sacrifice its own comfort for the companionship of its owner is A) "He will sleep on the cold ground when the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master's side".

This part of the speech pronounced by Vest presents the dog as a loyal friend. Here, the dog is conceived as an animal capable of doing anything just to be near its master, that is, its owner. In this case, according to George G. Vest, a dog is willing to leave a warm bed and to feel uncomfortable and cold in order to share a moment with its owner, protect him/her and, at the same time, feel protected.
