I would say the answer is anger. Notice how he mention Hades, which is the Greek God of the Underworld. Langston Hughes is basically saying he'd rather die than pay, which is seen as anger. I hope this helps!

With the interjection, listen, we can infer that the author wants to grab attention, something that would be concurrent with anger considering the use of an exclamation, the word Hades, and wanting to rot away.
