Biology

Answer: Meiosis is important because it allows for the production of new gametes and enables sexual reproduction. Meiosis ensures that chromosomes are evenly distributed among the daughter cells.

Explanation: Meiosis is a type of cell division whereby a cell divides twice to produce four daughter cells each having a haploid number of chromosomes instead of the diploid number of the parent cell. Meiosis occurs in sex cells such as the sperm cells and egg cells. It allows the production of new sperm cells and egg cells in the process of of spermatogenesis and oogenesis respectively. Without meiosis, sexual reproduction will result in an offspring with excess number of chromosomes.
