Reconstruction ended with the Compromise of 1877. The Compromise of 1877 allowed for Federal Troops to be removed from the South and for the South to deal with African-Americans as they chose in return for the acceptance of the Republican President, Rutherford B. Hayes.

In short, the Republicans gave away the farm and most African-Americans were disenfranchised by the early 1900s.

What was unique about the Russo-Japanese War?
irina1246 [14]

The most unique fact about the  Russo-Japanese War was the victory of the East over the great powers of the West. The fact that a small nation like Japan can defeat a large Nation like Russia was astonishing.

This was a war of expansionism that took place between 1904- 1905. It was fought between Japan and Russia over the territorial affairs in the Far East. At last, Japan claimed the victory in the war and emerged as the major power.

What motivated poor southerners to fight in the civil war?
aleksandrvk [35]
The main reason that poor Southerners chose to fought was because of Southern politics. Basically, Abraham Lincoln didn't want slavery to expand any further. If there was no bartering over new states to become slave or free, then the South was afraid that they would lose power in Congress. It's also worth noting that slavery is what was keeping the South afloat in terms of economy. All of those plantation homes were so lavish because the North funded the institution of slavery by purchasing goods produced by slaves from Southern slave keepers.
