Your body is powered by energy derived from the food we ingest and the oxygen in the air we breathe. That energy, in turn, has its origin in photosynthesis, which of course is driven by sunlight. Without the sun, all life on earth would soon die due to starvation. Life would also perish due to extreme cold.

The sun gives off light energy to plants. Light is required for plants to perform photosynthesis. And the plant provides nutrients for organisms such as humans. Some of those other organisms the plant provides nutrients for, we humans consume.
