Suddenly she turned from the window and stood before the glass. Her eyes were shining brightly, but her face had lost its color.

Quickly she pulled down her hair and let it fall to its complete length.
The James Dillingham Youngs were very proud of two things which they owned. One thing was Jim’s gold watch. It had once belonged to his father. And, long ago, it had belonged to his father’s father. The other thing was Della’s hair. If a queen had lived in the rooms near theirs, Della would have washed and dried her hair where the queen could see it. Della knew her hair was more beautiful than any queen’s jewels and gifts. If a king had lived in the same house, with all his riches, Jim would have looked at his watch every time they met. Jim knew that no king had anything so valuable.

So now Della’s beautiful hair fell about her, shining like a falling stream of brown water. It reached below her knee. It almost made itself into a dress for her.

The author probably wrote this passage to -

a
persuade people to buy pocket watches
b
express an opinion about King Solomon
c
entertain readers with a comparison in the story
d
inform readers about the Queen of Sheba

Answer:

c

Explanation:

The purpose of this passage is most likely to make an entertaining comparison between Della and a queen and Jim and a King. The text does not seem to be an opinion on a fictional or historical character since it does not mention anyone in particular except for the members of the James Dillingham Young family.

In “Principles of Conservation,” how does the author develop the second principle of conservation, prevention of waste?
Genrish500 [490]
He states that the word conservation has three principles to it. One being that conservation stands for development; that these resources on Earth are here for the benefit of society today. He believes that we should be developing these resources and using them to the fullest extent for this generation. We should be recognizing that the present generation has the right to these resources to meet our demand, and then the remaining is for the next future generation.
The second principle of conservation that this article states is the prevention of waste and that our duty as humans is to have control of the Earth that we live on. We should be controlling the waste of these resources, like the waste of timber in a forest fire for example.
The third principle of conservation is that these developed and preserved resources should benefit many people and not just a few. They should be considered a common good.

Read the following dialogue from Act IV of The Crucible, in which Tituba and Sarah tell Herrick that the Devil is about to fly t
garri49 [273]

Answer:

Phrases that use realistic elements are those that contain g [irias like "wingin" and "you desires". In addition, phrases using dialects of the time such as "I'd not refuse it" also have this element.

Explanation:

The realistic elements of the sentences are the expressions that were common in the colloquial language of the population at the time the story takes place. In this way, the author makes dialogues more realistic when he presents the use of girias and dialects common to the English spoken in that society, allowing the characters to be more palpable and real.
