The lines of evidence that support the THEORY OF CONTINENTAL DRIFT proves that the continents were once joined in one landmass called Pangea. The theory states that continental masses have changed their relative positions over the course of time. The earliest theories were based on apparent similarity of coastlines along each side of the Atlantic Ocean, especially the fitting of South America into Africa. 
Other lines of evidence include the discovery similar freshwater animal species that are oceans apart or tropical species of plant and animals found in areas now almost totally covered in ice. These prove that the continents have previously been in other locations.
