The Art of Painting, often referred to as The Allegory of Painting or Painter in His Studio, is an oil painting on canvas by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer from the 17th century. It is on display in Vienna's Kunsthi storisches Museum and belongs to the Austrian Republic.
The alternate title of the picture reflects the belief of many art historians that it is an allegory of painting. It is the most intricate Vermeer piece ever created due to its composition and symbology. It is his largest piece of art after Christ in the House of Martha and Mary and The Procuress by Vermeer.
