Thanks to overproduction, buying on margin, and the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the US economy crashed during the early 1930's. This resulted in millions of Americans becoming poor or homeless. Due to decreased consumption, businesses closed their doors. This resulted in millions of Americans losing their jobs. This is why the unemployment rate was close to nearly 30% by the time 1933 came around.

The other reason was the women did not get paid as much as men. Also, they did not get to have breaks and if you did they were very seldom. So if like you cut your hand you have to come back to work and if you were sick it didn't matter you were expected to come in still and work.
