Answer:

The settlement of America is the process of dispersal of the human species in the American continent. Scientific studies state that human beings are not originally from America, and it is clear that it was populated by humans from other places. Paleoanthropological and genetic evidence supports the hypothesis that the first settlers of America came from Siberia, the extreme northeast of Asia.

From the point of view of late settlement theory, Paleo-Americans entered the continent during the last ice age, when the passage to the New World through Beringia (the isthmus that is currently occupied by the Bering Strait) was possible. This happened between 15,000 and 14,000 years BC. On the other hand, the early settlement theory states that humans arrived in America much earlier, and is based on the discovery of remains whose carbon 14 dating is older than 14,000 BC. Some recent investigations take this date to about 33,000 years ago.1 To the paleoanthropological investigation is added the genetic information, which has served to reinforce some conjectures about the origin of the Americans. It is estimated that most of the American Indians are descendants of a group originating from Northeast or East Asia. The Na-Dené-speaking peoples are descendants of a second wave of migration that settled in North America, while the Eskimos arrived on the continent in a more recent migratory flow.2

After the Paleo-Americans entered the continent, the Beringia Pass was again covered by the sea, so that they were isolated by land from the rest of humanity. Except for the uninterrupted communication between Eskimos and Paleoeskimos from Alaska and Siberia and the case of a few brief Viking settlements in America, on the coast of Canada and Greenland, there is no conclusive evidence to support a transoceanic contact between pre-Columbian America and the rest of the world.

After the Columbian contact, various conjectures were raised to explain the origin of the American Indians, for example, resorting to the myth of Atlantis or the lost tribes of Israel. The advance of scientific research made it possible to demonstrate that there was no material relationship between the origin of the Amerindians and these beliefs, so these old hypotheses were discarded
