Answer:

1. A subjective social or religious issue that uniquely affects education

Issues like gun control, gender ed, prayer, creation v. evolution, and spanking in schools are, for the most part, matters of personal opinion. Implementation of rules regarding such issues may be based on legal precedent or pressure from political, administrative, or parental authority, but when opposing perspectives among interested parties converge, controversy is inevitable.

2. A deviation from traditional methods

Educational practices, teaching methods, and curriculum vary from school to school; nevertheless, in most public schools in the U.S., there exists a basic concept of education. Children are required by law to attend an educational institution whose responsibility is to impart knowledge and understanding of the traditional subjects: mathematics, English, social studies, and sciences. A certain level of non-traditional teaching style and the subject emphasis is generally tolerated or desired, of course, but when non-standard educational movements become broad, such as flipped schools, MOOCs, or homeschooling, or threaten to affect traditional schools, like same-gender schools or integration of students with special needs, controversy ensues.

3. A potential “corruption” or harming of students

Education is intended to provide knowledge, skills, and discipline; educated students are prepared for careers, personal fulfillment, inter-personal relations, and general life navigation. Sometimes, however, a school or instructor distorts those objectives, intentionally or not, and physically or ethically obstructs the goals of education. The controversy lies in the perspective: to some, educational research that depends upon real classroom conduct is progressive or necessary, while to others, emotionally or intellectually manipulating students or grades amounts to exploitative human experimentation.

4. Shown to be historically, scientifically, or socially incorrect

From a more historical standpoint, some of the controversial practices included in this list are no longer legal or fashionable but are nevertheless prime examples of contentious topics in education. It is precisely because of the controversy that practices like racial segregation have been challenged, disproven, and abolished, but in some cases, despite evidence to the contrary, questionable educational practices persist.

How did the Stuart rulers of England anger many English citizens with their belief
kakasveta [241]
The Stuarts were mainly a Protestant group. England had been under the thumb of the Catholic Church for years but when James I came along, he ordered all the Catholics out of England. This really did not sit well and there was even a plot to blow him up which they still celebrate to this day named Gunfire Night. His wife did not endear herself to the people of England because she spent ridiculous amounts of money on herself and her residence just because she felt she should be able to since she was royalty. James further aggravated the English by saying only he could decide church doctrine and furthermore he was not answerable to laws - only to God. When he died, England was left a lot of debts. His son did not improve the situation because he wanted to go to war with France and Spain. When Parliament would not readily give him the money needed he dismissed the Parliament and ruled for 11 years using the same idea as his father - Divine Rule of the King. Cromwell (not a Stuart) took over for the people until Charles II was invited to come be the king during the Glorious Restoration. He wasn't any better with money and had to marry outside of England to someone with a large dowry to get money When Charles II died, his brother James II took the throne and decided he would be Catholic. The people and Parliament had worked very hard to keep James II from the throne but he won. A Duke tried to defeat him but James II won. He was responsible for treason trials where more than 300 people were sentenced to death and 800 were sold into slavery. The people revolted and James II was reminded that his father had been beheaded and it might be nice for him to take a long, extended vacation to France. He left the throne to his son-in-law and daughter (William and Mary). They were avowed Protestants that could not sway the people of Ireland. When they died, the sister of Mary became queen. However, after 17 births, not one child lived to succeed her to the throne.
