Equation 1)  x = 3y - 6
Equation 2)  2x - 4y - 8

Basically, for equation 1, you would move the 3y to the other side so that x and y are on the same side. However, because it is a positive, when moving it over, it becomes a negative.

1)  x - 3y = -6
2)  2x - 4y = 8

Multiply ALL of equation 1 by 2 so that you could find the value of y.

1)  2(x - 3y = -6)

1)  2x - 6y = -12
2)  2x - 4y = 8

Subtract equations :)

-2y = -20

Divide both sides of the equation by -2, so that y is isolated.

y = -20/-2

y = 10

Plug in 10 for y in the first equation :)

x = 3y - 6

x = 3(10) - 6

Simplify.

x = 30 - 6

Simplify.

x = 24

So, x = 24, and y = 10

~Hope I helped!~

X = 3y - 6 so:
2(3y - 6) - 4y = 8
6y - 12 - 4y = 8
2y - 12 = 8
2y = 20
y = 10

x = 3(10) - 6
x = 30 - 6
x = 24

Housing costs are what percentage of monthly net income? Use the budget sheet to calculate. Round your answer to the nearest who
schepotkina [342]

Answer:

See below

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for calculating percent is

% = (cost of item/total cost) × 100 %

% = (cost of item/1875) × 100 %

% = (cost of item/18.75) %

You can use the same formula to calculate the percent for each item in the budget. For example,

Housing: % = 420/18.75 = 22 %

You can do this for each budget item and get the table below.

\begin{array}{lrr}\text{Expense} & \text{Cost} & \%\\\text{Housing} & 430 & 22\\\text{Food} & 300 & 16\\\text{Utilities} & 125 & 7\\\text{Transportation} & 320 & 17\\\text{Savings} & 500 & 27\\\text{Other} & 200 & 11\\\text{TOTAL} & 1875 & 100\\\end{array}

How many pounds of a 4% solution of borax must be added to 24 pounds of a
Marrrta [24]

Answer:

8 pounds of 4% solution of borax

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x  be the 4% solution

24 pounds of 12% solution

obtain a 10% solution of borax that is (x+24) pounds

4% is 0.04  and 12% is 0.12  , 10% is 0.1

0.04x+24(.12)=0.1(x+24)

solve the equation for x

0.04x+24(.12)=0.1(x+24)\\0.04x+2.88= 0.1x+2.4\\2.88= 0.06x+2.4\\0.48=0.06x\\x=8

so 8 pounds of 4% solution of borax
