The Indian Removal Act was created by Andrew Jackson in order to remove groups like the Cherokee from Georgia. The reasoning behind this was to open this land up to white farmers, as these farmers and different Native American groups have constantly fought over land in the South. This Indian Removal Act is seen as a blemish in American history, as this resulted in the death of thousands of Native Americans on what is now known as the "Trail of Tears." These Native Americans were forced to move to reservation land in modern day Oklahoma.
