1.) The correct answer for question 1 is "Blume is a gifted writer who can write for children as well as adults." The main idea of this paragraph is stated in the final sentence; it reads "Judy Blume is an exceptionally talented and productive American author."  The third sentence ("However Blume also has...." ) supports this main idea because the ability to write well for two age groups implies she has a unique talent by writing for two age groups and was more productive by writing both for adults and children.

2.) The topic of this video game would be a 'A superbird saves the world'. The game does not focus on informing about radiation or nuclear power, so both 'Radiation leaks are dangerous' and 'Nuclear power plants' are not the topic of the game. Although a bird who eats radiation indeed has a superpower,  the game does not focus on exploring the bird's powers, rather the topic is saving the world by eating the plants before the power plants explode and the world is destroyed.

3 ) The correct answer  to 3 is "It points out that walking is a good introduction to exercise for beginners." The main idea of the paragraph is that  it is "low impact and requires no fancy equipment". The third sentence supports this idea because people new to exercise may not be likely to invest in special equipment, and as newcomers to exercise they may be more susceptible to injuries and walking reduces their risk.

4.) As discussed in question 1, the main idea of this paragraph is that Blume is both an extremely  talented and productive writer so the correct answer is "Blume is a gifted writer who can write for children as well as adults.

5) The main idea of this paragraph as discussed above is "Yet it is low impact and requires no fancy equipment". The sentence support this idea by giving specific examples of injuries to tendons and muscles that are avoided when walking and by describing how, with the exception of "good sneakers",  one does not need special equipment.

Answer:

1. It tells you that the author has great talent because she writes good stories for children as well as adults.

2. A superbird saves the world.

3. It points out that walking is a good introduction to exercise for beginners.

4. Blume is a gifted writer who can write for children as well as adults.

5. That makes walking a simple activity for those new to exercise.

Explanation:

1.) The main idea of this paragraph is to inform us that she is a good writer of stories for both adult and children. This is underscore by the statement "She is most famous for her novels geared toward pre-teens... However, Blume also has had success writing for an adult audience".

2.) The appropriate topic for the game would be 'A superbird saves the world'. The major point to note from the excerpt is that the bird did not allow the nuclear tank to explode.  Which gives the impression that a disaster had been avoided, so the befitting topic would have been - A superbird saves the world.

3 ) According to the excerpt, walking is a good introduction to exercise for beginners. This is because it is easy and prepares beginners for other forms of exercise asides walking.

4.) The main idea is to buttress Blume's ability and capacity to write good novels for both categories. "She is most famous for her novels geared toward pre-teens... However, Blume also has had success writing for an adult audience".

5) The main idea of the is that walking is a form of less stressful exercise. Though it may be boring, it has little or low injury to human body. This makes it possible for begginners to take walking as a simple form of activity.

Read this passage from "Four Freedoms Speech" by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Marta_Voda [28]

The answer would be C. By using parallel structure, Roosevelt emphasizes the challenge the country faces in transitioning from peacetime to wartime.

The literary device parallelism is employed to emphasize how hard it is prepare for a wartime scenario. Parallelism is used mostly to provide emphasis in many moving passages and is efficient when trying to persuade or convince one's audience.

Example:

It was dark because a new era was upon the nation. It was dark because change was coming. It was dark because the struggle had only begun.

In this example, repeating the phrase "It was dark" places emphasis on the ominous tone of the prompt and allows the reader to feel the gravity of the situation.

Analyze “houses and rooms are full of perfumes”
viktelen [127]

In this section, Whitman breaks out of enclosures, whether they be physical enclosures or mental ones. In one of his early notebooks, Whitman had drafted the line “Literature is full of perfumes,” a recognition that books and philosophies and religions all offer filtered versions of how to view the world. They are all “intoxicating”—alluring, to be sure, but also toxic. We are always tempted to live our lives according to the views of those who came before us, but Whitman urges us to escape such enclosures, open up the senses fully, and breathe the undistilled atmosphere itself. It is in this literal act of breathing that we gain our “inspiration,” the actual breathing in of the world. In this section, Whitman records the physicality of singing, of speaking a poem: a poem, he reminds us, does not derive from the mind or the soul but from the body. Our inspiration comes from our respiration, and the poem is “the smoke of my own breath,” the breathing of the atoms of the air back out into the world again as song. Poems are written, Whitman indicates here, with the lungs and the heart and the hands and the genitals—with the air oxygenating our blood in the lungs and pumping it to our brain and every part of our body. We write (just as we read) with our bodies as much as our minds.

The poet in this section allows the world to be in naked contact with him, until he can feel at one with what before had been separate—the roots and vines now seem part of the same erotic flow that he feels in his own naked body (“love-root, silk-thread, crotch and vine”), and he is aware of contact and exchange, as he breathes the world in only to breathe it back again as an undistilled poem. All the senses are evoked here—smell (“sniff of green leaves”), hearing (“The sound of the belch’d words of my voice”), touch (“A few light kisses”), sight (“The play of shine and shade”), taste (“The smoke of my own breath,” that “smoke” the sign of a newly found fire within).

Now Whitman gently mocks those who feel they have mastered the arts of reading and interpretation. As we read this poem, Whitman wonders if we have “felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems,” and he invites us now to spend a “day and night” with him as we read “Song of Myself,” a poem that does not hide its meanings and require occult hermeneutics to understand it. Rather, he offers up his poem as one that emerges from the undistilled and unfiltered sources of nature, the words “belch’d” (uttered, cried out, violently ejected, bellowed) instead of manicured and shaped. This is a poem, Whitman suggests, that does not want to become a guide or a “creed,” but one that wants to make you experience the world with your own eyes. We take in this poet’s words, and then “filter them” from our selves, just like we do with the atmosphere and all the floating, mingling atoms of the world.
