Place the events that take place during translation and protein synthesis in the correct order. First event Last event Answer Ba

nk A codon on the mRNA strand binds with the complementary anticodon on a tRNA molecule carrying an amino acid. The smaller subunit of the ribosome attaches to the mRNA strand and moves along it.Once the amino acids have been removed from the tRNA molecules, the tRNAs leave the ribosome.New amino acids are added to the polypeptide chain by the ribosome.

Answer:

1. The smaller subunit of the ribosome attaches to the mRNA strand and moves along it.

2. A codon on the mRNA strand binds with the complementary anticodon on a tRNA molecule carrying an amino acid.

3. New amino acids are added to the polypeptide chain by the ribosome.

4. Once the amino acids have been removed from the tRNA molecules, the tRNAs leave the ribosome.

Explanation:

The initiation of protein synthesis occurs when mRNA joins the small ribosomal subunit. The initiating aminoacyl tRNA joins the initiation complex followed by binding of the large ribosomal subunit. The initiating aminoacyl tRNA base pairs with complementary codon "AUG" of mRNA to start the process of protein synthesis.

During elongation, the ribosome moves along mRNA and the process is supported by GTP hydrolysis. The initiation aminoacyl tRNA leaves and the second aminoacyl tRNA with complementary anticodon bind to the next codon of mRNA. This is followed by the formation of a peptide bond between the first and the second amino acid. The process continues to add more and more amino acids to the growing polypeptide.
