Bob is driving along a straight and level road toward a mountain. At some point on his trip, he measures the angle of elevation

to the top of the mountain and finds it to be 23°29'. Find the height of the mountain to the nearest foot if Bob is 16,194.6 feet from the center of the mountain at the base.

The line from Bob to the Peak of the mountain is the hypotenuse, and Bob's distance from the center base of the mountain is one leg, and the height of the mountain is the other leg. The 23o29' angle is between the hypotenuse and the leg from Bob to the Base (16194.6 ft). The side opposite to the angle is the height of the mountain.

The relevant trig function, then, is the tangent:

Tangent x = opposite side/adjacent side

Here the adjacent side is 16,194.6 feet and the opposite side is the height of the mountain. So

Tan(23.483o) = height/(16,194.6)

Solve for the height.

Answer:

The height of mountain= 197,185 foot.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that Bob is driving along a straight and level towards a mountain.

The measure of angle of elevation to the top pf the mountain =23^{\circ}29'

The distance of Bob from the centre of the mountain base =16,194.6 feet.

We have to find the height of mountain.

Let height of the mountain=h feet

In a triangle ABC

AB=h feet

BC=16,194.6 feet

\angle C= 23^{\circ}29'

29'=\frac{29}{60}=0.48

\angle C=23+0.48=23.48^{\circ}

1^{\circ}=60'

We know that tan\theta=\frac{perpendicular }{base}

Substitute the values then we get

tan23.48^{\circ}=\frac{h}{16194.6}

12.176\times 16194.6=h

h=197,185.4 foot

h=197,185 foot

Hence, the height of mountain= 197,185 foot.

Suppose that a department contains 9 men and 15 women. How many different committees of 6 members are possible if the committee
Drupady [299]

Answer:  The required number of different possible committees is 81172.

Step-by-step explanation:    Given that a department contains 9 men and 15 women.

We are to find the number of different committees of 6 members that are possible if the committee must have strictly more women than men.

Since we need committees of 6 members, so the possible combinations are

(4 women, 2 men), (5 women, 1 men) and (6 women).

Therefore, the number of different committees of 6 members is given by

n\\\\\\=^{15}C_4\times ^9C_2+^{15}C_5\times ^9C_1+^{15}C_6\\\\\\=\dfrac{15!}{4!(15-4)!}\times \dfrac{9!}{2!(9-2)!}+\dfrac{15!}{5!(15-5)!}\times \dfrac{9!}{1!(9-1)!}+\dfrac{15!}{6!(15-6)!}\\\\\\\\=\dfrac{15\times14\times13\times12\times11!}{4\times3\times2\times1\times11!}\times\dfrac{9\times8\times7!}{2\times1\times7!}+\dfrac{15\times14\times13\times12\times11\times10!}{5\times4\times3\times2\times1\times10!}\times\dfrac{9\times8!}{1\times8!}+\dfrac{15\times14\times13\times12\times11\times10\times9!}{6\times5\times4\times3\times2\times1\times9!}\\\\\\=1365\times36+3003\times9+5005\\\\=49140+27027+5005\\\\=81172.

Thus, the required number of different possible committees of 6 members is 81172.

A King in ancient times agreed to reward the inventor of chess with one grain of wheat on the first of the 64 squares of a chess
Sonja [21]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The number of grains of wheat on the n(th) square is 2^(n-1), or 2 to

the power of n-1.  This is because the first square has 2^0 = 1 grain,

the second has 2^1 = 2, and the n(th) square has twice as many as the

previous. Thus the total number of grains of wheat is

    S = 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + ... + 2^63.

Since this is a geometric sequence with common ratio 2, the sum is

        2^64 - 1

    S = -------- = 2^64 - 1 = 18446744073709551615.

          2 - 1

4. Lucy is k years old. She has a sister who is three years younger than she is and
WITCHER [35]

Answer:

4k - 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Lucy is k years old so we know k is an important part of this problem.
Sister 1 is 3 years younger, so she is k - 3 years old.
Sister 2 is 5 years less than twice Lucy's age therefore, she is 2k (twice Lucy's age) - 5 years old.
Now we have: k + (k - 3) + (2k - 5)
We can simplify like terms with the k's and get 4k. then we add (-3) and (-5) to get 4k - 8.

Hope this helps!
