The Union Army took a series of military actions during the Civil War in which their troops took control of the Mississippi River. Mississippi was the main north-south avenue of transport.  In July 1863, the western part of the Confederate states was split from the states east of the Mississippi River. Plan of the Union Army generals was to defeat the Confederacy through blockade of ports and control of rivers. Answer: Union forces took control of Mississippi River because they wanted to cut off the eastern part of Confederacy and to control the supply lines.

Union forces wanted control not only of the Mississippi River, but the Ohio, Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers (which they achieved by capturing Ft. Henry and Ft. Donelson). The Mississippi gave them a water route to use for movement of troops and supplies into the South, and by following the River to New Orleans and capturing the city, they were able to close off a major port of the Confederacy. (Control of the other rivers also provided a route to penetrate farther into the south with the assurance of the river to facilitate supply lines -- without that necessity, they were significantly limited in their ability to advance, needing proximity to Union-controlled territory or a railroad, and railroads in the South were few.)

Why did the King of England make the pronouncement of the "Proclamation Line of 1763?
Fantom [35]

Answer:

Proclamation Line of 1763 was meant to stabilize relations with native North Americans.

Explanation:

The 1763 Proclamation Line was a British measure following the French and Indian War by declaring the boundary of the Eastern Continental Divide in the Appalachian Mountains which prevented Anglo-American colonists from western expansion. It was a protective measure to avoid conflict with the native Indian tribes and french colonists which could have lead to another expensive war. Moreover, the British Government expressed concern that western expansion would provide opportunities for colonies to gain economic independence.

As part of the “Great Migration,” more African Americans sought better job opportunities by
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

The answer is option C

Explanation:

The Great Migration, now and then known as the Great Northward Migration, was the development of six million African-Americans out of the country Southern United States to the urban Northeast, Midwest, and West that happened somewhere in the range of 1916 and 1970.The second critical reason for the Great Migration was the craving of dark Southerners to escape isolation, referred to metaphorically as Jim Crow. Provincial African American Southerners trusted that isolation and bigotry and bias against blacks was fundamentally less extreme in the North. The Great Migration, a long haul development of African Americans from the South to the urban North, changed Chicago and other northern urban areas somewhere in the range of 1916 and 1970. Chicago pulled in somewhat more than 500,000 of the around 7 million African Americans who left the South amid these decades.
